Critical Illness Insurance Advice

2008 December 29

Here we have a short guide to critical illness insurance. What does it cover and who needs it. Whereas a term life policy is designed to pay off either a mortgage or to help a living partner with kids if someone dies a critical illness policy is best used to help a person who is seriously ill while they are still alive.

Critical illness policies can vary widely, so to ensure what is covered by a particular policy is right, it is best to check with your mortgage or financial advisor. In the main they cover serious illnesses or dread diseases such as the long list of conditions below:

Alzheimer’s Disease, Angioplasty, Blindness, Cancer, Coma, Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery, Deafness, Dementia, Heart Attack, Heart Valve Replacement or Repair, Kidney Failure, Loss of Limbs, Loss of Speech, Major Organ Transplant, Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Paralysis / Paraplegia, Parkinson’s Disease, Stroke, Third Degree Burns. The conditions covered vary from insurance company to company many cover other critical illnesses not listed.

The critical illness insurance policy will pay out the sum insured once the policy holder gets the disease or condition. This enables them to give up work and provide the necessary funds to live off until treatment is received and they are cured or in many cases sadly until they die.

Rather than going it alone and sourcing the most suitable insured amount we suggest filling in the 1 minute enquiry form. We will give you a ring and advice you of the most suitable type of policy.

The list of insurers available for critical illness cover is vast. Some of the more common companys are listed below:

AXA, Bright Grey, BUPA, Friends Provident, Legal & General, Liverpool Victoria, Norwich Union, Prudential, Scottish Equitable, Scottish Provident, Scottish Widows, Standard Life, Unum Provident

With such a serious condition getting critical illness insurance will prove very difficult if not impossible. Most insurers will not cover you if you have pre existing medical conditions that are of this nature.
